6 years in care
Aponi is a passionate advocate for foster youth and a dedicated member of the HI Hopes Youth Leadership Board in Hawaii since 2016. Her journey through the foster care system began at four months old, with over 10 placements before aging out at 18. Despite these challenges, she graduated high school, earned an associate degree, and is pursuing a bachelor’s in social work. As a Residential Specialist at The Salvation Army-Family Intervention Services, Aponi balances full-time work, part-time retail, and motherhood. She’s also a Young Fellow with the Jim Casey/Annie E. Casey Foundation and a 2024 Congressional Leadership Academy delegate.
