5 years in Texas’ Foster Care System

Aleea Guzman is a 20-year-old from El Paso, Texas. Aleea entered care when she was 14 years old, due to substance abuse in her household. She is the oldest of five siblings. When she was 18, she had the chance to join her siblings in their forever home, but decided to stay in the system to allow them to have the attention they needed. She would like to break the stigma and negative stereotypes people have about foster youth.

Aleea graduated from Montwood High School in 2018 and is currently attending El Paso Community College, studying to become a social worker. She is the first person in her family to graduate and go to college. In her free time, Aleea loves dancing and listening to other people. One of the quotes she lives by is, “God gives his strongest soldiers the toughest battles.”
