She/Her
5 Years in care
Serena entered foster care for the second time at age 14, navigating the challenges of being a teen mom with her two-month-old son. Despite facing numerous placements and hardships, she graduated high school as valedictorian at 17 while pregnant with her second child. She has since earned an accounting certificate from PTEC and a medical administration certificate. Currently a youth specialist at Ready for Life, Serena supports youth in foster care. She actively advocates for foster care reform in Florida, having spoken on panels and attended conferences. Her future goals include earning a degree in social work and opening two group homes—one for teen moms and another for men struggling with substance use. In her free time, she enjoys bowling and skating.
