In 8 years Melissa has been in twelve different placements, attended 10 different schools. She currently plans on staying in foster care until the age of 21 for the supports provided when going to college.

Melissa has been a member of her local Youth Advisory Board for three years and has been active in trying to better the foster care system. "Participation means a lot to me when being a part of any group. This means that you are willing to take part in any activity and are willing to maybe go the extra length to get goals accomplished." Melissa has also raised money for Relay for Life, an event of the American Cancer Society, March of Dimes, and Hut-A-Thon. She has also made blankets for Roswell patients.

"I only have two hobbies they are reading and volunteer community service. I feel that reading takes me away from the stresses of life for a little while. With volunteering, I just like the warm, fuzzy feeling I get when I have made a difference in someone's life."
