Leanne Singleton-Comfort

4 years in Foster Care

25 years old

She/her/hers

Leanne Singleton-Comfort is a student at Boston University working toward a Master of Social Work degree. She wants to make a career out of working with foster youth in a clinical social work setting. Leanne is an honors graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, a First Lieutenant in the U.S. Space Force, and is part of the Air Force World Class Athlete program. She is training hard every day in hopes of making the U.S. fencing team for the 2024 Olympics.

As a volunteer assistant coach for the Air Force Academy fencing team, Leanne coaches college athletes as well as leads summer sports camps for younger kids. She also uses her volunteer time to develop experience in social work by helping foster youth and adults at Griffith Centers for Children. Leanne is actively involved in community service projects through her church, and recently participated in a breast cancer fundraising event.

Leanne was in foster care for about four years. Her experience came with adversity, and she spent time in several different homes before finding her forever home. Foster care gave Leanne a chance to experience what a healthy and stable family dynamic looks like, giving her a support network so she could get her education and pursue her dreams. It was this experience that makes Leanne want to work with other children in foster care as a social worker.
