Kimmie Breeden spent 2 years in Oklahoma's foster care system.

Kimmie entered care at 14 and experienced separation from most of her siblings during multiple placements. She endured many personal challenges as she tried to control her chaotic life. After undergoing treatment, she found herself, her voice and hope for her future. She started attending a private university where she is currently a junior, studying Sociology. She is very passionate about creating a change in the foster care community. Currently, Kimmie serves as the secretary for the Leadership Council of the Oklahoma Foster Youth Advocates where she is also a member of both the outreach and community engagement committees. She is working on a project for curriculum changes using youth voices in the Oklahoma Department of Human Services and the National Resource Center for Youth Services. She contributes as a member of the Board of Directors for Kindred Wings, an organization which helps kids in foster care succeed in school. She has held many leadership positions including: President of the French Club for two years and Vice President of the national foreign language honor society Alpha Mu Gamma, while still managing to remain on the Dean's Honor Roll. In the past year, Kimmie volunteered with Stand in the Gap - a ministries organization that helps vulnerable people in transition, including foster youth aging out. All of this work has cultivated a deep desire to work within systems in order to make a difference. Kimmie plans to obtain her Master's of Social Work to become a Clinical Social Worker. Long term, Kimmie would like to make a difference on every level of child welfare - individually, locally, and on the state and national levels.
