Kati ‘kaa-tee’ is a first-generation Chicana with roots in Guanajuato, Jalisco and Mexico City. She entered the foster care system at 14 alongside her three siblings before being separated from them. Graduating from the University of Oregon with two degrees in English and Indigenous Race and Ethnic Studies and a minor in Native American Indigenous Studies, they have since dedicated their time to advocacy and racial equity work. Kati has contributed to her community by working for organizations such as Oregon Foster Youth Connection, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Planned Parenthood, and the Women’s Center at the University of Oregon, where she led initiatives to address domestic and sexual violence. They are currently starting their first year as a graduate student in the Counseling: Marriage, Family and Couples therapy program at Portland State University in hopes to provide support to the Latine community, Disabled community, former and current foster youth and people creating their chosen families. Kati is committed to creating equitable, culturally relevant and human-centered change for all people.
