Josue spent 8 years in foster care in the state of California and is now a student at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona studying Computer Information Systems.
What motivates his passion of serving his community is the shared experience of knowing what it's like to be an outsider in a new environment. Having no familial ties, support system, or a tribe, being able to connect with those who understand a shared experience is very important to him.
Josue works as a peer mentor for the Renaissance Scholars program at Cal Poly Pomona, a program that helps former foster youth to transition to university life.
His goal is to finish college next year and become a full-stack developer. A quote he goes by is one from Gandhi that says:
“Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever”
