Jasmine Washburn is an advocate, creator, and a LEx Leader from Albany, NY. She is currently
majoring in Psychology and English at The University at Albany. Jasmine uses her Instagram
platform of over 20k followers to advocate for foster care reform by shedding light on the
system’s flaws and discussing possible solutions. Jasmine was placed in foster care at 12 years
old and spent 7 years in care, before signing out at 19. She is the first ever Foster Youth
Representative and mentor at her University, where she leads a community based club for
current and former foster youth at her college. Jasmine is also a member of the NYS Youth
Advisory Board where she brainstorms ways to improve our Child Welfare system with policy
makers in her state, and a Youth Advocate through the Fostering Youth Success Alliance where
she advocates for foster youth, families and education equity.
