Hannah Royal was in the foster care system for four years in the state of Oregon. During Hannah’s time in foster care, she maintained her focus on school, and she was inducted into the National Honor Society, was a member of Key Club, and was a member of three varsity sports teams. Hannah works at the Boys and Girls Club where she is able to reach many youths and help get them involved in activities that they may not have been introduced to otherwise.  Hannah is currently attending Oregon State University and is working towards a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Hannah plans to continue on to graduate school to earn a Master’s of Education in Science so that she may be able to become a high school biology and chemistry teacher.

Hannah is an active member of a local panel tasked with selecting and researching an issue within the local child protective services system and making recommendations to improve related policies and practices. She has also been a speaker at foster parent training as well as attended Oregon Foster Youth Connection (OFYC) panels advocating for positive changes in the foster care system. She plans to continue her advocacy work into her teaching career and for the rest of her life.
