Garrett Hoppe spent 3 years in Oregon's foster care system

Due to his biological mother's mistakes, Garrett Hoppe entered the foster care system at the age of fifteen. Spending three years in the system, he experienced three placements including foster homes and kinship care. Garrett was unable to maintain family connections while and for three years, he wasn't able to talk or visit with his siblings.

Since leaving foster care, Garrett is going to school and wants to become a teacher. He participated in the 2016 Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Program where he met with his Congressional member to share his experiences in care. He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and in the future, Garrett would like to help shape the foster care system to benefit other foster youth
