She/Her
18 years in care
D’borah Israel is a nationally recognized child welfare advocate based in Denver, Colorado, who is passionate about making real change for young people in foster care. At just 26, she brings both lived experience and professional expertise to her work. After aging out of the foster care system at 18 and experiencing 64 placements, D’borah understands firsthand the challenges, instability, and resilience it takes to navigate the system.
Despite these challenges, D’borah has turned her story into a powerful force for change. She has helped champion legislation that supports youth transitioning out of foster care and has been featured in multiple articles for her leadership and innovative ideas. Her work is grounded in empowerment, endurance, and making sure young people feel seen, heard, and valued.
D’borah is more than an advocate—she’s a mentor and motivator. She works directly with youth and families, offering guidance, support, and encouragement as they work toward their goals. She believes that every young person has the potential to thrive, especially when they are given the right tools and opportunities.
Through her work in advocacy, community engagement, and social justice, D’borah continues to push for systems that truly honor and uplift young people. Her vision is a future where foster youth are not just supported, but celebrated—where they feel confident, empowered, and inspired to grow, lead, and become even better than her.
