Crystal Yanez is from Los Angeles, California. Crystal's parents emigrated from Mexico to California for better opportunities. She overcame losing her parents due to gun violence, trauma and poverty. She went to care at 4 and was placed in kinship with her sister at 7 until her sister passed away from cancer. After this incident her other sister adopted her. She studied and obtained an A.A degree in Behavior and Social Sciences at El Camino Compton College Center. She is a first generation Latina in her family to obtain a Bachelor's. After she transferred and graduated from California State University, Dominguez and got her Bachelors in Human Services with a concentration in Mental Health. She graduated with a 3.4 GPA and received honors. She plans to apply to a Master's program in Social Work. Last year Crystal created her own service project that assisted youth in shelters. During her undergrad she worked as a Librarian assistant at El Camino Compton College. In addition, she has worked as a Peer Advisor/English mentor for Toro Guardian Scholars and Student Support Services at California State University, Dominguez Hills. In the past she has interned at Upward Bound, and Jumpstart. Some of her strongest personality traits are sincerity, kindness and effective leadership.
