Crystal has had extensive experience within the foster care system. Separated from her siblings and parents when she was 12, Crystal bounced from home to home due to complications with foster families. During the course of 7 years, she was in 20 different foster homes. Crystal has been a part of the LSS Duluth Youth Leadership Council since it began in 2007. She has served as the council's president and continues to be a leader for her peers. As part of her participation in the council, Crystal has presented workshops at the statewide Minnesota Tomorrow's Leaders Today Youth Leadership Conference, met with state legislators at the Rally for Youth Day at the Minnesota state capitol, worked with county social workers on a youth survey, provided feedback for the implementation of the National Youth in Transition Database in Minnesota, and presented a workshop at the St. Louis County Health and Human Services conference. Crystal is dedicated to improving the lives of foster youth and continues to give her whole heart into projects and activities the council takes on.
