Brittney Wortham, age 22, spent 18 years in California’s kin-gap foster care system.

Brittney was adopted three days after she was born. Adopted by a relative, her case was closed and unfortunately, she wasn’t able to receive resources or support within the foster care system. During her time in care, her adoptive mom passed away, the son of her adoptive mom and his fiance took guardianship over Brittney and her siblings.

Despite not having received resources or support, Brittney is pursuing post-secondary education and is a sister of Delta Sigma Chi at her College. She enjoys giving back to her community, such as participating in food drives and fundraisers. Brittney is also a member of the California Youth Connection (CYC). As an advocate, she works to empower and create leaders in the foster system to create change within the foster system.

Brittney hopes to graduate with a Masters and Ph.D. in English Literature, where she hopes to teach all ages and levels of education.
