She/They
15 years in care
Amal Kharoufi is a passionate advocate for youth transitioning out of the foster care system in New York. She has led a team of youth and adults to create the first all-youth-led direct cash transfer program for young people leaving foster care. This program provides important support and empowers youth to take control of their futures.
Amal uses her personal experience in foster care to inspire and educate others about the need for change in the system. She has written articles, created flyers for organizations, and used social media to raise awareness about the challenges foster youth face.
In the future, Amal plans to focus on her healing journey while continuing her advocacy work. She wants to help improve the foster care system for LGBTQIA+ youth and ensure they have the resources they need to succeed.
