Alexia Ysabel Betances currently attends Florida Atlantic University, where she is a senior studying social work graduating in Fall 2021 with a bachelor’s degree. Alexia plans on continuing her studies at Florida Atlantic University in the Master of Social Work program in Summer 2022, allowing her to take some time off and work full-time to gain experience in the social work field. Alexia is currently a Youth Peer Mentor at Work Opportunities Unlimited, a company that helps young adults ages 16-24 gain resources such as employment, volunteering, as well as living assistance.  In Alexia’s free time, she loves to volunteer for organizations such as Speak Up for Kids, workout, play video games, as well as spend time with close family and friends. Currently, Alexia is a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, Champions Empowering Champions, as well as a Co-Founder of the student organization, FAU Keep Moving. Alexia has used her experience in foster care to serve as a mentor to other students and advocate for raising awareness about mental health and mental wellness. Alexia entered foster care at age 10 and aged out at age 18. Alexia says that people are often amazed at how much passion she has for helping others. One day, Alexia hopes to become an LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker) and work her own private practice with adolescents struggling with mental health, as well as open up a Nonprofit or Charity to help youth with disabilities and foster care youth.
