University of Illinois- Urbana Champaign The Village Project
About this resource
The Village Project is a supportive program designed to connect students—particularly those with experience in the foster care system—with resources, community, and a sense of belonging. It centers around informal, family-style dinners called Dine and Align, which are peer-led and funded by a School of Social Work alumnus. These gatherings foster strong connections among participants.
Beyond emotional support, the project encourages storytelling, self-expression, and advocacy, with some members even contributing to a book together. It aims to empower students to improve themselves and the broader system, promoting healing and systemic change through shared experience.
