About this resource

Independent Living (IL) Programs help youth in foster care—and those who have aged out—get ready for adult life.

They offer support with things like:

  • School and job planning

  • Finding a place to live

  • Learning how to manage money

  • Building a support system

IL Programs are here to help you reach your goals and succeed on your own.

Who can use this resource (eligibility)?

You can join if you are:

  • Between 14 and 21 years old, and

  • Currently or formerly in foster care, and might age out of the system, or

  • Adopted or placed in guardianship from foster care after turning 16

  • IL Programs are here to help you build skills and plan for your future as you become an adult.
