Kansas: Kansas Kids @ GEAR UP

About this resource

The goal of the KKGU Kansas Kids @ GEAR UP program is to assist students with lived foster care experience with graduating from High School and to further their education by obtaining a degree from a 4-year college. KKGU program can also help foster youth with Independent Living (IL) Services, Leadership Opportunity, Life Skills, & Rights in Foster Care. All services are FREE for eligible students in Kansas.

Eligibility

Kansas Kids @ GEAR UP is a U.S. Department of Education funded program with Wichita State University as the administrator of this program. Children in foster care are given top priority for services.

In order to be eligible for Kansas Kids @ GEAR UP, students must:

Be in foster care and attending a middle or high school in the region, OR be currently in state custody and attending a middle or high school in the region.

Scholarship Eligibility:

  • Current Youth in Care
  • Former Foster Youth (18+),
  • Juvenile Justice Youth (JJ Youth)
  • LGBTQIA2-S+ Youth
  • Disabled Youth
  • Foster Youth of Color
