Independent Living (IL) Programs help current and former foster youth reach their independent living goals, providing services for education, employment, housing, budgeting and building a support network to assist youth as they transition to adulthood.
Offers opportunity to get involved with Denver Metro Youth Advisory Board through application process. They will help with: finding educational programs, financial aid, housing, employment, and the acquisition of life skills. They do this by meeting with youth in the community, one-to-one independent living skills training, connecting youth to resources in their community and encouraging clients to set and pursue goals for success.

Eligibility

It is always okay to call and ask. To be eligible for Chafee Foster Care Independence Program (CFCIP) services, the youth must be:

  • Currently in out-of-home care, fourteen (14) up to eighteen (18) years of age, and in out-of-home placement for a minimum of six (6) months. Consecutive months are not required.
  • Age sixteen (16) to twenty-one (21), who meet requirements for Relative Guardianship Assistance and entered Relative Guardianship on or after age sixteen (16)
  • Age sixteen (16) to twenty-one (21), who meet requirements for Adoption Assistance and entered Adoption Assistance on or after age sixteen (16);
  • Age eighteen (18) to twenty-one (21), who were in out-of-home care on their eighteenth (18th) birthday.
