About this resource
ACE Scholars Services is an innovative, top-tier program at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) designed to support former foster youth at a time when they need it most.
The ACE program is not an extension of the state foster care system. Instead, it's about ensuring academic success upon exiting the system — and making the transition from being cared for, to caring for oneself.
Our primary objective is to meet the unique needs of students who are former foster youth through services and support systems that will improve their rates of matriculation, graduation, and career success.
Eligibility
Application Requirments for Freshman:
- Applies to ACE Scholars Services by completing the ACE Program Application Form.
- Following review of the application, it will be necessary to submit a Verification of Dependency Letter documenting foster care placement.
- Completes all college preparatory A-G coursework (this refers to 15 of the required High Shool credits)
- Meets the minimum CSU eligibility index requirements.
- Applies to CSUSM on the Cal State Apply page, between October 1st – November 30th.
- Was in foster care on or after their 13th birthday for at least two years OR is participating in extended foster care and under the age of 30.
Application Requirments for Transfer Students:
- Applies to ACE Scholars Services by completing the ACE Program Application Form.
- Following review of the application, it will be necessary to submit a Verification of Dependency Letter documenting foster care placement.
- Has completed 60 or more transferable semester units by the end of spring.**
- Earned a cumulative transfer GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Completed the four general education courses, known as the “Golden Four”, with a “C” grade or higher (Oral Communication, Written Communication, Critical Thinking, Mathematics or Quantitative Reasoning)**
- Applies to CSUSM on Cal State Apply between October 1st – November 30th.
- Was in foster care on or after their 13th birthday for at least two years OR is participating in extended foster care and under the age of 30.
