Service Opportunity Title: Oregon CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Conference: LEx Panel
Purpose: The Oregon CASA Network (OCN) would like to hear from Lived Experience Leader (LEx) on what it means for CASAs to effectively advocate for and support youth in foster care. This is an in-person event.
Background: The Oregon CASA Network provides a conference for CASAs around the state to gather, learn how to improve their advocacy skills and meet the needs of youth in foster care. Three to four LEx leaders will be part of an hour-long panel that discusses what it means for CASAs to effectively advocate for and support youth in foster care as well as how having a CASA impacts youth’s experience of foster care. LEx leaders will be invited to attend the rest of the event, should they choose to. The whole event is two days long.
Location: Spirit Mountain Casino, Grand Ronde, Oregon
Timeline/Dates of Service:
October 2 and 3, 2023
Living Allowance or Stipend:
- $300 living allowance. Lodging, food, and travel will be provided
Activities LEx Leaders will be involved with:
- 2 hr Prep (1 call with FosterClub + 1 call with OCN)
- Option to join full OCN Conference October 2 & 3rd
- 1 hr Panel (Oct 2nd)
- 30 min Debrief Call
Who should apply:
Young person who has experienced foster care and is:
- Age 18 - 26
- Comfortable speaking to individuals who work with foster youth about their own experiences in care and recommendations
- Experienced care in Oregon and currently live in Oregon
- A background check will be required
You do not need experience with a CASA to apply to participate; we would like to have 1-2 LEx Leaders who do have CASA experience.
Preference will be given to individuals who have completed Strategic Sharing training with FosterClub and served as AllStars or Peer Navigators.
