Project Foster Parent Appreciation

So not to long ago...like literally 30 minutes ago something happened that I feel was worth while to share. At the moment I am on my fall break and I decided to come home to my great-aunts house who I was in kinship-care with for about 7 1/2 years of my time in care. I was talking with her this morning as I began to share some of the stuff that we have been doing with the state youth advisory board and talking about the new law signed by the President on September 30, 2011 she stopped me, and said what about the foster parents? She asked me while everything that I do is well and good do we ever take the time to just focus on the foster parents because they had some part in helping us to get to where we are today. I let her know that we do show appreciation and that we are trying to make a lot more situations better that involve foster parents where things have not always been so good. And she said something that just got to me, she said " I don't see or know any bad foster parents, I just know people who tried to help." I could only stop and think for a moment as I began to try to put myself in her shoes. Even though she doesn't fully understand what I do maybe we don't always do enough to show our appreciation for them. So with that being said I want to do something to change that because Foster Parents are important as well. She took my sister and I in at the age of 72 and did a great job and I am sure that there are many others out there with similar stories as well. So I am in the process of planning Project Foster Parent Appreciation with hopes of reaching not only the Foster parents in South Carolina but outside of it as well.
