Life as an All- Star

Life as an All-StarHello people! Before anything else, I would like to share with you all about how I heard about FosterClub because there has to be a beginning to everything right?

So my Freshmen year of college I received an email that informed me about the FosterClub All-Star internship. To be honest, I wasn't the best at opening up all of my emails yet, let alone reading them. Luckily, this one I did. I got it the day the application was due so I decided I would apply the next year. I did. I would say it was unfortunate that I didn't get to be a part of the internship that year but I feel especially lucky to have applied again and been chosen to be an All-Star this year.

If someone would have told me the summer leading into my freshmen year of college that I would enjoy being around former foster youth this much, I definitely wouldn't have believed them. When I left for college, I thought I would leave that part of my life behind me. Except I was completely wrong, and I couldn't be happier for that. I've found that my time in the foster care system wasn't just an unlucky draw of the cards, but a path that has led me to be who I am today; someone I could be proud of.

Being an All-Star has helped me learn so much. It's incredible to be a part of something that can lead to so much change; especially when it's the good kind of change. Sure, I'm not the best at getting up in the morning and sometimes I just roll out of bed, having to rush to the office but everyday is a new experience and it's almost like unlocking a new piece of me, which is pretty darn cool. It's only been a few weeks but I feel like I have grown so much.

When I learned that I would be living with 11 other people, it scared me, but it's been nice being surrounded by motivating, inspiring, and goofy people. Even though some days are tougher than others, I'm able to come home, snuggle up, and share some good laughs with my fellow All-Stars. I'd tell you all more about them but that topic could go on for days. Don't worry though, rest assured, you can read all about them too!

So how do I sum up my All-Star experience so far in one word? Phenomenal.
