10 Things You Should Know - Interracial Adoption Part 2

Hello to All at FosterClub! I just wanted to take a quick second to share with you a video about adoption! A lot of issues in this video can actually pertain to foster care as well.

I recently posted a video on YouTube, and a foster parent who is in the process of adopting asked for some advice, and wanted me to post a video on 10 Things That I Think Foster/Adoptive Parents should know about adopting a child from another culture/race.

As many of us know, the foster care system is disproportionately made up of minorities, particularly African-Americans. Regardless of what minority group the youth in foster care/adoptive place is, it is important for foster and adoptive parents try to be sensitive and gain more knowledge about the youth's culture to best accomodate the youth.

This video does just this and gives foster/adoptive parents a unique perspective that they don't always get the chance to hear. A lot of times we seek professionals, researchers, and adoption/foster care specialist to answer the many questions we have about youth in care and adopted youth but its also smart to ask the people who have been through it. I was honored to have a foster parent ask for my opinion and if just one child/family is helped by this video it makes it completely worth it. Enjoy!
