Recently the National Foster Care Youth & Alumni Policy Council had the opportunity to share its Mental Health and Social Capital recommendations with leaders of national partner organizations of Casey Family Programs. The presentation created an opportunity for youth-informed recommendations to reach decision-makers who help shape programs, policies, partnerships, and advocacy efforts across the country. This included recommendations like:

  • Expand how mental health support is defined and delivered
  • Strengthen youth voice and shared decision-making
  • Invest in relationships, mentors, and community connections

Ultimately, this will lead to stronger pathways for young people to have the tools and relationships they need to thrive after they exit foster care.
