One of the many ways we can celebrate the life and leadership of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is to have the courage to create change that will bring us closer to his vision of an inclusive and just society free from poverty, racism, and violence.

In observation of MLK Day, FosterClub celebrates our 130 Lived Experience Leaders who contributed over 10,000 service hours over the past year.

The courageous narratives of FosterClub’s Lived Experience Leaders are helping to break stereotypes, influence hearts and minds, and are generating support for programs, policies, and practices that advance equity in the child welfare system, including:

• Ensuring those with first-hand experience as children and youth in foster care are engaged, represented, and driving change in a system that so profoundly impacts their lives
• Shedding light on the disproportionate number of Black and Native American young people who are placed into foster care
• Making recommendations to address inequities across the child welfare system, particularly for young people who identify as BIPOC, LGBTQ+, immigrant, or are experiencing mental health challenges.

FosterClub honors the contribution of Lived Experience Leaders everywhere.
