Seaside, OR, (October 23, 2009) – FosterClub, the national network for young people in foster care, was named “Best of the Northwest” medium-sized non-profit organization in the 2009 Youth Thrive Awards.

The contest, held during August and September, asked people to submit reviews and ratings about non-profits serving youth. The awards were hosted by GreatNonprofits, the leading provider of user-generated ratings and reviews of nonprofits, VolunteerMatch , and Guidestar. Over the course of the Youth Thrive Awards, more than 93,000 people visited the GreatNonprofits website, and 3011 reviews were posted on more than 300 nonprofits serving youth.

“There are so many great non-profits that don’t have an advertising budget and are not household names,” says Perla Ni, CEO and founder of GreatNonprofits. “Through this first-ever list of top-rated non-profits serving youth, you can see how some of these non-profits are changing lives. Donors and volunteers who are interested in helping kids and youth now see which non-profits are really making a difference.” This is the first ever list providing reviews of non-profits serving youth by those who have actually experienced their work. These unique results will be helpful to donors and supporters looking to get involved with this area. Reviewers gave FosterClub a nearly perfect score.

“The best thing about FosterClub is that it is built for youth, powered by youth and changing life in foster care. I believe the young people who have experienced foster care and then use that experience to improve the system for their young peers are truly heroic,” said another reviewer, an alumni of the foster care system.

“Coined as ‘The Little Non-Profit That Could’, FosterClub's determination and dedication is continuously surprising the youth members, foster parents, staff, partners, and other field members. I see this organization as a leader that works with their eyes wide open and their arms open even wider,” said another reviewer. “Opportunity is greeted with optimism. The mission is carried out with creative innovations. The young people FosterClub serves are loyal and protective of this organization, and that is how you know you have a topnotch service provider!”

FosterClub is the national network for young people in foster care and is headquartered in Seaside, Oregon. The organization’s mission is to lead the efforts of young people in and from foster care to become connected, educated, inspired and represented so they can realize their personal potential and contribute to a better life for their peers.

“I was recently named an Outstanding Young Leader from Nevada and they have shown me what it is really like to have someone to care about me and only want the best for me,” cited a young person from foster care who posted a review at “I could go on and on about how great FosterClub is, but that would take days, if not years.”

Reviews appear on as well as, the premiere source for donor research on non-profits. Non-profits with the most positive reviews in their region and budget category were determined the winners of the 2009 Youth Thrive Awards.
