Sara has shown great resiliency in her life, and received some needed support along the way.

She says, "I moved to Marion, Michigan where I stayed until I aged out. The last foster home I was in the foster mom called herself a life placement. She said no matter what I was staying until I graduated high school, and that she could get me the help I needed to graduate. Do you know how many more foster youth would graduate from high school if we had more foster parents like that?" Sara has exhibited her leadership as President of her Student Council and President of her local youth board. She has received many awards for her outstanding academics and volunteerism, spoken to senators and judges about policy reform and created presentations on foster care for colleges.
