Michelle spent 22 years in California's foster care system.

Michelle has spent 22 of her 23 years in foster care. She experienced multiple moves and hardships throughout her time in foster care, however, she graduated from high school with a 3.8 GPA. Michelle is proud that she is the first in her family to graduate high school and go onto higher education. She joined a program called ASPIRANET Transition housing which has helped her learn how to be on her own and given her a support network. Michelle engages in advocacy and her community through a number of avenues: she volunteers with California Youth Connection (CYC), ASPIRANET Youth Advisory Board, works with foster youth by speaking at workshops about her experience in the system, volunteers at her church with the children department and every summer, she volunteers as a camp counselor. Currently, she works at Amazon and think that it's an great work experience and loves it. She has a lot of support through the life coach, work family, church and my family who help support her. Michelle’s goals are to finish college and jump into a career, but she always wants to give back anyway she can to the foster care system.
Quote: I want to inspire people. I want someone to look at me and say because of you, I didn’t give up.
