Lacy Larsen

Spent 3 years in Missouri's foster care system

Lacy Larsen’s determination to succeed and lead is apparent in everything she does. She served as president of the student chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, as well as president of the Future Farmers of America (an American youth organization that provides middle and high school classes that promote and support agricultural education). She was also an officer for the Future Business Leaders of America, an organization dedicated to helping students transition to the business world.

She qualified for the state competition for FCCLA and was then chosen to participate in nationals where she served as a fashion design judge.

Incredibly, in high school she starred in four sports—track, cross country, basketball and cheerleading—while working part time. She qualified for state track championships all four years and three times came away with a medal. She won track district competitions three times, and cross country districts once.

Lacy’s academic career has been marked by success. She has always been an honor student. Her hard work paid off when she was accepted by Northwest Missouri State University to study business. Currently a freshman, Lacy’s fierce determination and competitive fire will undoubtedly lead her to great things.

Lacy has had a very challenging last few years. Everyone in her small hometown, it seemed to her, was aware of the circumstances that eventually placed her with a foster family. But she never let anything slow her down. Her high school record was phenomenal. The possibilities for her in college appear unlimited.

It’s like when she runs— no amount of pain, or hard work, or setback will stop Lacy Larsen from crossing that finish line in first place.
