Kayla, age 19 from Nebraska, spent 5 years in the foster care system. She has had a difficult experience while in care. She served on a committee that passed legislation to create a program for young adults aging out of the foster care system, to ensure they have the tools and support they need to thrive as adults, despite their experiences during childhood. She also serves on a youth board called Project Everlast. She is a mother and attends college with a goal of becoming an architect.
