Gabrielle Wheeler, 20, Montanna’s Child welfare system.
Gabrielle was separated from her family at the age of 13. She experienced 5 placements, a kinship/relative placement, three group home facilities, and foster home placement. During her time in care, Gabrielle was awarded the A.C.E award and successfully graduated high school. Thereafter pursuing higher education and completing a successful year of college.
She is an advocate on the state youth advisory board and supports in the states Reach Higher Step Ahead Summit - a conference for foster youth striving towards higher education. In her spare time, she enjoys assisting with community marathons and supporting fundraisers for Helena's Playable Playgrounds - built to serve children with physical disabilities.
Currently is employed with Chafee services, within DPHHS, as well as a part-time barista. After taking a year off college, she plans to return in January to pursue a BSW. Her hopes are to one day work in group homes supporting youth.
Gabrielle Wheeler is compassionate and empathetic to those around her. Her experiences in life have given her the passion to educate others on the levels of trauma, and how everyone handles it in their own unique way.
