About this resource

At the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services we want to help youth in foster care and young adults who age out of foster care prepare for a successful transition into adulthood. We want to improve opportunities for youth and young adults to build independent living skills, make connections to caring adults, acquire opportunities that generate leadership skills, and in turn, become more confident and productive individuals in society. - See more at:

  • All Youth in DCS custody in Tennessee should have an Independent Living Plan at ages 14 to 16 or a Transition Plan at age 17 and older regardless of permanency goals, placement or adjudication.
