A Week At Foster Club

In one week at FosterClub, I can experience times of organization and structure to immediately the opposite. One of the main challenges I have endured during this internship with FosterClub, has been learning how to function even when everything around you might seem like its not. Organization is very important to my daily function; however, there have been moments where structure has seemed to lack tremendously, and when things would just happen spontaneously. Forced to act on short notice, or work with what we are provided, has been a constant battle that I have been learning to adjust to. Although everything inside of me wants some sort of organization in our everyday work-plan, I am learning that sometimes the dysfunction challenges ones patience. It allows you to appreciate the moments when there is structure and organization.

Upon arriving at the FosterClub headquarters, I had anticipated to receive a work schedule that would broadly lie out my day-to-day activities. But I had hoped for a little too much; a schedule, I’ve learned, is a blessing to receive here. Every week we might receive a schedule for one day, but for the rest of the week we find out what’s next as we go. It is not my intention to question the organization; yet it is my need for some kind of structure that has allowed me to realize that I need to stand back sometimes. So long as I am receiving the essential tools and the necessary training to become a Foster Care youth advocate, my worries should be few. Thus although I would originally be stressed out, I have been a bit more relaxed. Everyday I go into work unsure of what the day looks like, but appreciating the fact that I am still going to learn something new, and that I will be trained to tackle situations or circumstances I would otherwise not know how to respond to.
