Life in GHANA

It has been a while since I last posted but think it would be a good idea to let everyone know what I have been doing. Since I left FosterClub in September, I have been enjoying the time spent with my family in Michigan and preparing for a move that I finally made 3 weeks ago.

I was offered a job and the opportunity to move to Ghana as the Funding, Advocacy, and Communications Director for OrphanAid Africa. I will be honest and say the first night here was probably the lowest i have felt in my life. I have never felt more alone, scared, and empty as that night. Not knowing anyone here, having a way to call home, or even if I was safe made me wonder what I was doing here?

From there it has gotten much better. I now know a lot of people, enjoy my friends, talk to my family everyday, and have rewarding work. This place makes you appreciate the simpler things in life. I now am very much in desire of a HOT shower, continuously running water, and electricity. I appreciate milk more as it is not easily found here for the fact that there is not means of refrigeration and transport.

I have been enjoying the heat as much as you can without sweating to death. As difficult as it can be at times i would still suggest that if you get the opportunity to go someplace differnet and either help other or experince a different culture/ world that you embrase that opportunity. Do not be afraid of the unknown as life is to short to not take risks, explore the world, and meet new people.

I promise there is much more to come. I hope to post pictures soon so that you can all see this place for yourself.

Peace
Marcus
