2014 California Youth Ambassador and 2009 Outstanding Young Leader, Akin now joins FosterClub as the Policy Specialist. Located in Washington, D.C., Akin's main job responsibilities are to co-manage National Foster Youth and Alumni Policy Council (link is external) (NFYAPC), co-manage Congressional Foster Youth Shadow Program and to manage state and federal policy visits/programs aimed to engage young leaders in national child welfare policy. An advocate since the age of 16 and foster care alumnus, Akin brings lived experience and in-depth knowledge of the system to the position.

FC: What do you do when you are not working?
AA: Spend time with my wife and son. Traveling as much as possible. Also, I am a doctoral student.

FC: Experience with Foster Care?
AA: Spent 17 years in foster care in Los Angeles, CA.

AA: 1) I have three college degrees. 2) I have directed a music video for a Grammy winning artist. 3) I have 11 siblings.

AA: New challenges excite me!
