On Tuesday, June 9th, 2015, the North Carolina House passed bipartisan foster care bill, House Bill 424, by a 115-0 vote. This bill, and it's companion "Fostering Success" Senate Bill 424, extends the age of foster youth receiving services from 18 years old to 21.
- allows individuals to receive foster care services until age 21
- allows individuals who choose to leave after 18, to return to foster care services till 21.
- states beneficiaries can live apart from parental foster care (on campus or outside housing) with monthly oversight
- has educational or employment requirements
If singed into law, the bill would take effect August 1, 2016.
