Welcome
Foster care can be a confusing place. If you are a young person, know that you are not alone: every two minutes a young person enters the foster care system. We've pulled together this overview to help you better understand foster care.
What is foster care?
Foster care provides care for children and youth who are not able to live with their biological parents. When parents are unable, unwilling or unfit to care for a child, the child must be placed in a safe place.
Who are the kids?
Today, there are over 400,000 children and youth living in foster care. They come from varying backgrounds and foster care is required for a myriad of reasons. Some have been through trauma, abuse and/or neglect. All of them need a loving home.
