I am a photojournalism student at the International Center of Photography, and I am making a photography documentary project on youth aging out of the foster care system in NYC. My goal with this project is to address the issues surrounding transitional stages of young adulthood and independence for those graduating foster care. I am deeply invested in this issue, as I know how incredibly difficult this transition is, and how little is invested into most young adults at this stage.
I believe that their stories are important to tell, and photo documentation as a narrative plays a huge role in advocacy and social change.
If anyone has recently aged out of the foster care system, will soon age out, or works with kids in transition, I would love to talk further with you and hear your story.
