To begin, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a national association in the United States that supports and promotes court-appointed advocates for abused or neglected children in order to provide children with a safe and healthy environment in permanent homes.
The most recent CASA conference was the biggest their biggest conference ever, and FosterClub was there to experience the whole thing. The conference took place at the Sheraton Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana from May 30th - June 2nd, 2015.
Over 1,400 attendees were present to obtain the knowledge and tools to create better outcomes for abused and neglected children and serve the CASA/GAL member network. There were about 70 different workshops for them to choose from to attend from “The Attachment Relationship Part 1: How Attachment Impacts Children” to “The Best Gift- Helping Children Gain Self Control”, The learning opportunities were endless.
The FosterClub All-Stars took part in this memorable experience, some of the All-Stars presented a workshop (Getting Solid) which is a workshop about permanency. Being youth that were in the foster care system, the All-Stars know first hand how difficult it is to find permanency, so they educated the CASA Attendees and gave an insight on what happens and how to effectively impact the lives of the youth that are having trouble finding permanency.
Then all of the All-Stars that attended this conference participated in a panel discussion, giving an insight on the foster care system and their experiences, also if they did or did not have a CASA worker. The impact that having one made in their life or how it would have impacted their lives if they did have a CASA worker.
