Each and every day, community leaders and youth advocates strive to improve a broken system that we are all familiar with, the child welfare system. A system that is filled with air, sink and loop holes that will take many years to approve upon. We know this because we were and others still are going through those motions.

But today, I want you to applaud yourself for overcoming adversity. I want you to delete the label "I was a foster kid" because you are a human first. I say this because from this day forward we will no longer rely on a system to fix our every day life struggles. We will no longer fault a system for our hardships. We will use our own abililities and knowledge to reach the pathway to success. We will face life head on to get where we want to be, look back and say I did it! You have the strength, you hold the power and you believe in yourself.

Have a wonderful week :)

Great blog, Kenisha!

I love this message of strength, and the idea that young people who've experienced care have abilities and knowledge - perhaps even learned through their experiences - that can contribute to success. Well done!
