Breathe in and breathe out. Take a minute and just sit back. Imagine yourself walking barefoot on the beach; feel the sand as it cushions beneath your feet. Listen as the waves of the ocean gracefully roar and splash before you. Stand still; breathe in the scent of the sea and the cry of the seagulls soaring above you in the blue sky. Breathe out. Relax and stand in ease; embrace the life around you, capture the moment, and allow it to relieve the stress and anxiety that you are always surrounded by. Capture this moment and make it your own. However, I encourage you to find your own escape resort, where you can just be alone and at ease. Find a place where the worries of the world cannot follow you, a place where you can grip and claim your own.
When everything seems to be falling apart, when the stresses of life reach up to you, or when you just seem overwhelmed, its important to find those places where you can just breathe in, and breath out. Find those places where you can be alone and reflect–where you can reclaim your life. Whether on top of a city building watching as the sun rises and life begins to awaken, or in an open field lying underneath the night sky and gazing at the twinkling stars–find your place.
My stay at Seaside, Oregon, the location in the picture above, the beach, has been one of my favorite places to retreat. After a long day at the FosterClub office, after hours of discussion and personal reflection, I feel more able to untwine my thoughts here. I allow the tides to strip away any frustration or stress I might have. And I allow the ocean to help me wash and make clear what I still might be trying to understand or comprehend. Surrounded constantly by ten peers and always engaging my attention and mind to the training activities at work, my desire to be alone and to step back from life for a moment, is always appreciated. Therefore, I encourage all and any, to always set time apart for reflection, to find a place where you can reflect and unfold your day.
On a side note, however, it has been a great privilege to be apart of this internship. There are definitely ups and downs, but when in life aren’t there. I have been able to reflect so much on myself, grasping a better understanding of what I struggle with and how I can overcome it. Being here is part of a milestone in my life that I hope to grow and develop from. This is the beginning of a new chapter in my life and I am excited to see where the ocean carries me next. As the ocean proclaims its presence with its graceful roaring waves, I too hope to make my presence great, and yet graceful, wherever I may go in the future. Again, this is just the beginning of something new.
