Employment Opportunity: System Change Communications Specialist

 

FosterClub is seeking a qualified Communications Specialist to work with our System Change team. This team elevates voices and perspectives of young people with lived experience in foster care to promote positive change across the child welfare system. What You Will Do

You will work with the System Change team to develop and deliver strong, compelling communications and publications for partners, policymakers, and other adult stakeholders in the child welfare sphere. You will maintain relationships with FosterClub's partners. You will lead communications strategies to reach our target audience, create impactful content, and manage our communications and media assets portfolio. You will connect and engage with stakeholders through the use of social media, our website, earned media, print, and other digital platforms. You will create graphics, layouts, and other visual assets. Your work will reflect FosterClub's commitment to reduce racial and gendered outcome disparities for young people and their families impacted by the child welfare system. You will work as part of a close, collaborative team and engage directly with young people, including our Lived Experience (LEx) Leaders.

You will serve as the public voice of the System Change team. You will manage media engagement and relationships with a wide range of outlets and journalists. You will routinely monitor the child welfare landscape and conduct industry research to stay abreast on leading topics, policy trends, and research in youth development and child welfare practices. You will write and edit content, including proposals and grants.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, or a related field (Master's preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Demonstrated skills using social media, blogging, and other campaign and communications tools.
  • Creative thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including copy editing.
  • Website/blog management experience strongly preferred, especially Drupal.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office or Google Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, and to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with or interest in working with youth in and from the foster care system.

Compensation

Salary range of $55,000 - $60,000, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
