FosterClub, through its partnership with Casey Family Programs, is offering an exclusive opportunity for an individual with lived experience in foster care. This role will provide an individual with hands-on experience and the ability to develop and gain research and evaluation experience in the field of child welfare. Additionally, this fellowship will aid in the development of the selected individual’s professional and leadership skills.


FosterClub believes that child welfare will benefit from having highly trained/intensely supported emerging young professionals who have lived experience in the foster care system. Emerging young leaders from foster care are more successful if provided skills and opportunities that take into account their lived experience, provided 1:1 coaching and access to networks of national child welfare stakeholders.


Through their national partnerships, Casey Family Programs works with a variety of organizations to improve the welfare of youth in the foster care system. These partnerships focus on various topics related to child welfare. They include efforts to improve the practice of child welfare, support child development research, and promote innovative approaches to child welfare.

The Research Analyst will participate in a variety of research and evaluation projects to advance policy, practice, and system change in child welfare. The role will require development of effective working relationships with a wide range of internal and external partners and stakeholders.


PLEASE NOTE:  This is a temporary positions that will run through December 31, 2023, with potential for renewal. This role is also designed to be .75 FTE or 30 hours per week.

Essential Functions

  • Work on multiple research projects. Actively collaborate with external partners, including child welfare leaders, experts, and stakeholders to design, plan, and coordinate all aspects of research studies.This includes developing project goals and research designs, overseeing research contractors and budgets, and ensuring high ethical standards in the conduct of all research and evaluation projects.
  • Summarize research findings using technical and non-technical language for multiple audiences, including stakeholders inside and outside of the foundation. Author project briefs, peer-reviewed journal articles, listserve postings, technical reports, etc. Lead presentations internally and externally at local and national professional conferences.
  • Conduct statistical analyses for a variety of projects using appropriate analytical techniques. Develop analysis plans and provide supervision for statistical analyses conducted by external contractors and graduate student interns.
  • Provide research and evaluation consultation to jurisdictions, external and internal stakeholders, and universities. Represent Research Services on internal committees. .
  • May supervise graduate student interns, contractors, and temporary employees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Lived experience in the child welfare system (this could include foster care, kinship care, legal guardianship, adoption from foster care, etc.)
  • Advanced degree (such as PhD, MSW, MA) in Social Work, Psychology, or other closely related field. At least 2 years of professional experience in research and evaluation settings. Ph.D. may be substituted for experience
  • Knowledge of a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods and analysis techniques.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, experience in designing and writing research products for multiple audiences, and demonstrated skill in communicating with a diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of child and family social services.
  • Excellent consultative skills and experience building and maintaining strong working relationships. Other desirable characteristics include teaming and negotiation skills, a strong initiative and self-starting approach, flexibility, and the ability to turnaround assignments quickly.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and SPSS. Ability to learn other pertinent software programs as required.
  • This is a three-quarter (¾) time position that may require travel 15% or more of the time.
  • Ability to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information by learning and following all relevant policies and protocols and using sound judgment in the handling and sharing of that information.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to lift and reach for light objects; close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, text, and figures; ability to type utilizing a computer keyboard; ability to travel to outside locations; and the ability to work at a computer for extended periods of time as a primary job function.   • Driving on Casey business may require use of a personal vehicle; adherence to vehicle safety guidelines and qualification for insurance is required.

Compensation & Benefits

$37.50/HR, .75 FTE, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This is a fully remote position, with occasional travel required.

Expected Hours of Work: FosterClub employees are expected to follow traditional office hours (8:30am - 5:00pm M-F). Assignments for this role may, at times, require after hours and weekend hours.
Travel: FosterClub staff are expected to have a willingness to travel for this role and adhere to the agency travel policy. This role may require up to 40% of travel time.
