Melvin Roy has been in foster care for 4 years in Virginia.
While in the system, Melvin was able to serve as Vice President on an amazing youth advocacy group called Speak Out which helps to bring many issues in Virginia’s foster care system to Legislature. Through Melvin being in care, he was awarded a $1000 Scholarship and nominated for Youth of the Year from the Boys and Girls Club because of his commitment to bettering himself and those around him. Melvin plans on attending Old Dominion University in the fall to pursue a degree in Political Science. With that degree, he will pursue a career as a Lobbyist with an end goal of working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Melvin has grown while in care because of all the trials and tribulations he has faced which has given him the motivation to set an example for others that you are bigger than your situation.
