Erika entered the Louisiana Child Welfare system at age 15.

Her experience in foster care gave her the opportunity to serve on the Louisiana Youth Advisory Board, inspiring her studies in social work.

Erika is a youth minister in her church, an advocate for foster youth and other single moms, and enjoys volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. At school, she is a student advisor.

Erika is working on her second bachelor’s degree! This time in nursing. She has big dreams and hopes to become an ordained minister.

“Instead of avoiding our problems by running away from them, we must embrace the mess and grow through them...ultimately loving others as God moves us and lending a helping hand whenever the opportunity presents itself!”
