5 Years in Minnesota’s Foster Care System
Devon Jenkins is a 20-year-old foster youth from Minnesota. Devon encountered his first out of home placement at the age of 13. Since then he has been in five out of home placements and three congregate care facilities. Although his experience in congregate care was a relatively positive one, Devon can still recognize the struggles and barriers that youth face when entering the system. He is currently a volunteer advocate for youth in out of home placements. He began advocating in 2015 when he joined the Minnesota Youth Leadership Council (MYLC). Devon also sits on the Tomorrow’s Leaders Today conference committee to be a youth voice in combination with participating in the conference. In his free time, Devon enjoys playing video games, fishing, and playing basketball. He uses all of these interests to connect with and mentor local youth.
