Sade Burrell

2009 Outstanding Young Leader
View Sade's Profile
Sade was born and raised in San Diego California. She was born into a large family and was lucky enough to receive a kinship placement along with her sister to live with her aunt. Her biological mother continued to have more children and Sade’s aunt ended up taking in all seven of them. While in first grade she learned that one of her brothers was murdered by her stepmom. Sade and the rest of her siblings all grew up with anger issues because of this and the abandonment of her biological parents.
Despite the trials and tribulations early in her life Sade was able to overcome in order to make a difference in the world. She has a creative niche to inspire others to find their strength within. Sade is an officer at her EOPS student organization on her campus that is dedicated to doing community service projects. It is no surprise that it is one of the most active organizations on campus because of her exceptional leadership skills. Sade is also an active member of the California Coalition for Youth, and regularly attends conferences and supports foster care reform.
Sade aspires to be a Social Worker one day in order to inspire foster youth to succeed. Sade’s story is displayed at the Governor’s wall in California. She was just accepted to San Diego State University where she will study social work. Sade will balance going to school full-time, working full time, running on the track team and still finding time to advocate for foster care issues. It is because of her past that makes her as strong and determined as she is today.
